It’s officially summer in Seattle and some of us are feeling the sting of not living in air-conditioned homes (but thankfully we keep our store nice and cool). Seattleites brave enough to expose their pale, vitamin-A-deprived skin to that sphere of burning plasma in the sky will be delighted to hear that, per usual, there is no shortage of fun events happening in the city this August; here are some of our favorites...
Thursday, August 2 - Weed School: Fairwinds @ Herbn Elements
Class is in session! Our friends from Fairwinds will in the shop from 4 to 7pm to talk about their thoughtfully engineered topicals, tinctures, and vape cartridges. All Fairwinds products will be 20% off!
August 3-5 - Seafair Weekend Festival @ Genesee Park
Pick up some bacon-flavored tincture for your 4-legged companions, because the war machines will be roaring over Seattle all weekend long. In addition to the Blue Angels air show, festival activities include boat races, wake boarding, musical performances, BMX stunt shows, and lots more.
Friday, August 3 - Concerts at the Mural @ Mural Amphitheatre
Every summer, KEXP partners up with Seattle Center to put on a free concert series at the Mural Amphitheatre, so look forward to a concert at the mural every Friday this August. The first show kicks off with Tacocat as the headliner!
Saturday, August 4 - Flashmob Water Gun Fight @ [secret location]
Beat the heat and scare the crap out of innocent bystanders by participating in a flashmob water gun fight! Sign up on their Eventbrite page, then show up to the secret location wearing blue or red with a water gun or two. Being a Los Angeles transplant (sorry), I’m hesitant to wear blue and point a gun at people wearing red, but that’s just me.
Saturday, August 4 - Nine Circles of Hell: A Reproductive Rights Fundraiser @ Substation
Support reproductive rights and bodily autonomy by attending Nine Circles of Hell: a benefit show organized by the Seattle chapter of The Satanic Temple. This benefit features burlesque dancers, DJ sets, Satanic crafts, and a midnight unbaptism ceremony. See you there!
Saturday, August 4 - Lake City Summer Festival & Parade @ NE 125th at 28th Ave
A part of Seafair, the Lake City Summer Festival and Parade features a vintage car show, food trucks, a dog parade, and of course, the annual Salmon Bake. This year’s festival also features a "teen-focused Hip-Hop/Skate Park mash-up with dance, music, and skating” that I’m sure all the kids are jazzed about.
August 8-19 - The Phantom of the Opera @ The Paramount
A new production of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s beloved musical is playing Seattle for a limited time. Eat some edibles before the show, maybe bring a preroll or vape pen for intermission, and immerse yourself in the music of the night. Say hi to budtender Bree if you see her there!
Thursday, August 9 - Weed School: Puffin Farm @ Herbn Elements
Class is in session! Our friends from Puffin Farm will be here from 4 to 7pm to talk about their sustainable, living soil grown, Clean Green Certified outdoor buds. All Puffin Farm products will be 15% off while they're here!
Sunday, August 12 - Stop-Motion Animation 101 @ Woodland Theater
Animator Clyde Petersen (director of Torrey Pines) is teaching a class on producing stop motion animation in his style. If you’re interested in learning how to produce 2D stop motion shorts in the style of South Park, be sure and check it out. There are only 5 tickets left as of this writing.
Thursday, August 16 - Weed School: Legal Beverages @ Herbn Elements
Class is in session! Mirth Provisions (pka Legal brand beverages) will be here from 4 to 7pm to talk about their THC and CBD infused sodas. All Legal brand beverages will be 15% off while they're here!
August 16-31 - The Who’s Tommy @ 12th Ave Arts
Despite the thin premise of a boy going blind and mute after 2 adults say, “You didn't hear it / You didn't see it / You won't say nothing to no-one / Never in your life,” The Who’s Tommy is a captivating show that’s great for anyone over 15. This production features some gender reversal, as the role of the Acid Queen will be played by a dude, and some performances will have a woman playing the role of Tommy.
August 17-19 - Seattle Hempfest @ Olympic Sculpture Park
Quite possibly my favorite event of the year, Hempfest is a massive “protestival” made up of cannabis enthusiasts from all over the Northwest. Though it’s not uncommon for Seattle locals to opt out of the fun (“Hempfest? *scoff* I haven’t gone to that since I was, like, 12”), there’s nothing like it anywhere else in the world. Call your friends, bring lots of flower and prerolls from our shop, and find a shaded smoke spot near all the delicious food carts.
Hempfest is an “all ages” event, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’s a really awkward festival to bring the kids to.
Friday, August 17 - Neal Brennan @ The Neptune
Co-creator of Chapelle’s Show and star of 3 Mics on Netflix, Neal Brennan is a hilarious comedian with a cynical yet poignant world view. He also bears an uncanny resemblance to budtender Jake!
Saturday, August 18 - Screenprinting Work Party to Increase Mid-Term Voter Turnout @ Pratt Fine Arts Center
The midterm elections are coming this November, and now is the time to start preparing and campaigning. If you’re happy with the way things are, you may already have a red hat to show your approval, but the rest of us need a screen printing workshop so we can express our ideology in a more fashionable way. Come with a cause or message in mind and don’t forget to bring a blank shirt.
Thursday, August 23 - Weed School: Pearl Extracts @ Herbn Elements
Class is in session! Our new friends at Pearl Extracts will be in the shop from 4 to 7pm to talk about the extraction processes for their terpene-rich, Clean Green Certified oils. All of their cartridges and disposable vape pens will be 15% off while they're here!
August 24 & 25 - Pain in the Grass @ White River Ampitheatre
Lots of great rock & metal bands will be performing at Pain in the Grass including Lamb of God and Alice in Chains... but the only band that matters is SLAYER! 🤘
Saturday, August 25 - Nudestock @ Tiger Mountain Nudist Resort
We post about these nudist events so often that I feel I should take the time to clarify that we are in no way compensated or endorsed by Tiger Mountain Nudist Resort… I just like writing about fun events involving public nudity because, well, why the hell not?
Nudestock is the biggest event of the year at this family-friendly nudist resort, so bring granny, bring the kids, and bring towels to sit your bare asses on.
Thursday, August 29 - Weed School: Botanica Seattle @ Herbn Elements
Class is in session! The team from Botanica Seattle will be with us from 4 to 7pm to chat about Spot chocolates, Mr. Moxey's mints, and Journeyman edibles. All their products will be 15% off while they're here!
Saturday, August 31 - Bumbershoot @ Seattle Center
One of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bumbershoot features musical performances by artists like The Chainsmokers, Lil Wayne, Chromeo, Fleet Foxes, SZA, and Blondie. Bumbershoot also boasts an impressive lineup of comedians like Eugene Mirman and Emily Heller. If I had to pick one day to go, it would be Saturday, September 1st so I can see Dr. Octagon and the guys from Last Podcast on the Left.
Those are just a few of our favorite events happening this August. Thanks for reading! We’ll be back in September with another list of our favorite Seattle events.
